Common terms used across sleep, travel, feeding and product-safety guides.

Aftermarket accessory

A part not supplied with the original product. Use only when the product manufacturer permits it.

Bassinet

A small infant sleep product with specific limits and standards that vary by country.

Bedside sleeper

A product designed and regulated for use beside an adult bed; not the same as an ordinary bassinet or nest.

Car seat useful life

The period specified by the manufacturer before a child restraint should be retired.

Certification mark

A required national or regional mark indicating that a product was certified to applicable standards.

Convertible car seat

A restraint designed for more than one use mode, subject to its labels and manual.

Infant sleep product

A product intended or marketed to provide infant sleep accommodation and subject to applicable rules.

Play yard or playpen

A portable enclosure whose permitted sleep use depends on country and model.

Recall

A safety action that may require stopping use, repair, replacement, refund or disposal.

Stop-use limit

A weight, height, age, developmental or condition limit after which a product should not be used.

Travel system

A compatible stroller and infant car-seat combination approved by the manufacturers.
